Derivation of the name: Derived from the smaller skull size of the PLD taxon within the genus Palaeoryx.

Sister taxa: Palaeoryx majori, Palaeoryx pallasi

Type specimen: LGPUT PLD 150, a partial skull (almost complete cranium). Its type locality is Platania (=PLD), which is in a Miocene fluvial sandstone in Greece.

Ecology: ground dwelling grazer-browser

Distribution: found only at Platania (=PLD)
