Sister taxon: Scaphokogia cochlearis
Type specimen: MUSM 973, a partial skull (subcom- plete cranium, including the tympanic bulla, but lacking mandible & periotic). Its type locality is Sud Sacaco, Montemar, which is in a Messinian paralic siltstone in the Pisco Formation of Peru.
Ecology: aquatic carnivore
Distribution: found only at Sud Sacaco, Montemar
