Type specimen: FMNH PF 15327, a partial skeleton (incomplete impression including flank scales and pectoral fin with partial endoskeleton). Its type locality is Beartooth Butte, Shoshone National Forest, which is in a Givetian/Frasnian fluvial horizon in the Jefferson Formation of Wyoming.

Distribution: found only at Beartooth Butte, Shoshone National Forest
