Sister taxa: Thylophorops chapalmalensis, Thylophorops perplana

Type specimen: MLP 08-III-10-1, a partial skull (a fragment of skull preserving the left maxilla, and a left dentary preserving the second premolar (p2), the deciduous premolar (dp3) and an erupting third mola). Its type locality is Punta San Andres, which is in a Pliocene cave claystone/carbonate in the San Andres Formation of Argentina.

Ecology: scansorial omnivore-carnivore

Distribution: found only at Punta San Andres
