Sister taxa: Amphimachairodus coloradensis, Amphimachairodus giganteus, Amphimachairodus hezhengensis, Amphimachairodus horribilis

Type specimen: IGM 6414 and 6415, a mandible. Its type locality is La Rinconada, which is in a Hemphillian fluvial horizon in the Rancho Viejo Beds Formation of Mexico.

Distribution:
