Sister taxa: Xibalbaonyx microcaninus, Xibalbaonyx oviceps
Type specimen: CPC-2774, a mandible. Its type locality is Cenote Tortugas, which is in a Pleistocene sinkhole carbonate in Mexico.
Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore
Distribution: found only at Cenote Tortugas
