Reptilia - Testudines - Dortokidae

The species is named in honour of our late colleague Matyas Vremir, who passed away in June 2020, who skillfully prepared and studied the holotype specimen, and whose research greatly improved our understanding of fossil vertebrate faunas from Romania, including turtles.

Sister taxa: Dortoka botanica, Dortoka vasconica

Type specimen: LPB (FGGUB) R.2297, a partial skeleton (a partial skeleton with most of the carapace and the complete plastron preserved in contact, together with the exposed in situ right scapula and right pubis). Its type locality is La Cărare, Sânpetru, which is in a Maastrichtian channel sandstone in the Sînpetru Formation of Romania.
