Sister taxa: Cuon alpinus, Cuon bourreti, Cuon dukhunensis, Cuon majori, Cuon priscus, Cuon sumatrensis
Type specimen: AMNH 18389, a mandible (18389, pair of lower jaws). Its type locality is Yen-ching-kao, which is in a Pleistocene/Pleistocene terrestrial horizon in China.
Ecology: ground dwelling carnivore
Distribution: found only at Yen-ching-kao
