Reptilia - Testudines - Podocnemididae
Derivation of name. The species epithet powelli refers to the palaeontologist Prof. Dr Jaime Powell from the Universidad Nacional de Tucuman, who recently passed away, for his contributions to the knowledge of the fossil vertebrates from north-western Argentina.

Type specimen: IBIGEO-P 107, a partial skeleton (A nearly complete skull, lower jaw and a partially preserved carapace and plastron with some appendicular remains inside.). Its type locality is near San Antonio de los Cobres, which is in an Eocene lacustrine - small sandstone in the Geste Formation of Argentina.
Ecology: aquatic herbivore-carnivore
Distribution: found only at near San Antonio de los Cobres
