Type specimen: AM 6150, a partial skeleton (a partial, semi-articulated skeleton that preserves part of the skull, vertebral centra and arches, scapulae, pelvic girdle, both hind limbs, and ribs). Its type locality is Kirkwood Cliffs ‘Lookout’, Kirkwood Quarry, which is in a Valanginian floodplain mudstone in the Kirkwood Formation of South Africa.
