Diagnosis. Large species of Metacaremys with almost synchronous closure of lingual flexids. Bottom of the metaflexid straight and wider than in M. primitiva comb. nov. Average APL of m1 and m2 c. 15 longer than in M. calfucalel sp. nov. Average APL of m3 nearly 30 longer than in the latter species. Sister taxa: Metacaremys calfucalel, Metacaremys primitiva
Type specimen: MMH-GUA 20-01, a mandible (left mandibular fragment with intra-alveolar portion of incisor and dp4–m3). Its type locality is Laguna Guatraché, which is in a Huayquerian terrestrial horizon in the Cerro Azul Formation of Argentina.
