Sister taxon: Caviocricetus lucasi
Type specimen: SGOPV 2194, a maxilla (maxillary fragment bearing right DP4M1). Its type locality is Pampa Castillo, which is in a Burdigalian fluvial sandstone/siltstone in the Galera Formation of Chile.
Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore
Distribution: found only at Pampa Castillo
