Type specimens:

  • Leptarctus wortmani: AMNH 2575, a mandible (lower jaw with canine, p3, and p4). Its type locality is Leptarctus wortmani type, which is in a Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Ash Hollow Formation of Nebraska.
  • Leptarctus (Pseudoleptarctus) genowaysi:
  • Leptarctus desuii: BHI, a partial skull (anterior portion of skull with left P2-M1, right P3-M2). Its type locality is Carlson Quarry, which is in a Barstovian/Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Ogallala Formation of Nebraska.
  • Leptarctus kansasensis: F:AM 49450, a partial skull (three skull fragments). Its type locality is Selby Ranch Quarry, which is in a Clarendonian terrestrial horizon in the Ogallala Formation of Kansas.

Ecology: scansorial omnivore

Distribution:

• Miocene of United States (6: California, Kansas, Nebraska collections)

Total: 6 collections each including a single occurrence
