Derivation of name. Named in honour of Professor Dr Alberto Riccardi in recognition of his important work on South American Mesozoic palaeontology, especially ammonites, and for his very influential presidency of the IPU, his work with CONICET and other institutions.

Sister taxon: Castillocythereis multicastrum

Type specimen: LM-FCEN 3458, a carapace. Its type locality is Cerro Azul CA 3, which is in a Maastrichtian marine siltstone in the Jagüel Formation of Argentina.

Ecology: epifaunal detritivore-grazer

Distribution:

• Cretaceous of Argentina (5 collections)
