Sister taxon: Machaeromeryx tragulus

Type specimen: MCZ 351, a mandible (A right mandible with p4-m2). Its type locality is Thomas Farm, which is in a Hemingfordian terrestrial sandstone/claystone in the Alachua Formation of Florida.

Ecology: ground dwelling browser-grazer

Distribution: found only at Thomas Farm
