The specific epithet immortalis (Latin: immortal, deathless) refers to the presence of this Agathis species just 2 Myr after the biotic crisis at the Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary.

Type specimen: MPEF-Pb-5867, a multi organs (Leaves, pollen cones, ovuliferous complexes, seeds). Its type locality is Palacio de los Loros 2, which is in a Danian fluvial siliciclastic in the Salamanca Formation of Argentina.
