Sister taxa: Notharctus robustior, Notharctus tenebrosus, Notharctus venticolus, Pelycodus relictus

Type specimen: UW 3007, a mandible (left mandible with P4M1-3, right mandibular fragment with P3, and isolated lower incisors and canine). Its type locality is Opal (UW 19-67), which is in a Bridgerian fluvial tuff in the Bridger Formation of Wyoming.

Ecology: arboreal omnivore

Distribution:

• Eocene of United States (37: Colorado, Wyoming collections)

Total: 37 collections each including a single occurrence
