Belongs to Galaxias according to Lee 2007
Sister taxon: Galaxias kaikorai
Type specimen: OU 22650, a skeleton (entire, articulated fish skeleton.). Its type locality is Foulden maar (I43/f8503), which is in an Aquitanian crater lake diatomite in the Foulden Hills Diatomite Formation of New Zealand.
Ecology: planktonic suspension feeder
Distribution: found only at Foulden maar (I43/f8503)
