Belongs to Muraenesox according to C. Lin and D. Nolf 2022
Sister taxa: Muraenesox cybium, Muraenesox furcatus
Type specimen: IRSNB P 9971, an otolith (sagitta). Its type locality is Barrytown, which is in a Bartonian offshore horizon in the “upper” Lisbon Formation of Alabama.
Ecology: nektobenthic carnivore
Distribution:
• Eocene of United States (2: Alabama, Texas collections)
Total: 2 collections each including a single occurrence
