Sister taxa: Complexiopollis abditus, Complexiopollis praetumescens
Type specimen: Plate 8, figs. 1, 2 (slide 1, coordinates 24.4 x 95.4), a microspore. Its type locality is R1011B, which is in a Turonian/Coniacian fluvial sandstone in the Raritan Formation of New Jersey.
