Sister taxon: Plionarctos harroldorum

Type specimen: AMNH 18115, a maxilla (partial maxilla with partial M1 and complete M2). Its type locality is Mount Eden, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Mt. Eden Formation of California.

Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore-carnivore

Distribution:

• Hemphillian of United States (2: California, Indiana collections)

Total: 2 collections each including a single occurrence
