Type specimens:

  • Pogonodon platycopis: Its type locality is John Day Units E and F, which is in a Geringian terrestrial horizon in the John Day Formation of Oregon
  • Pogonodon cismontanus: YPM 10053, a mandible ( a complete left mandibular ramus and the anterior portion of the right). Its type locality is Hermosa (Oligocene), which is in a Whitneyan terrestrial horizon in the Brule Formation of South Dakota.

Ecology: ground dwelling carnivore

Distribution:

• Oligocene of United States (2: Oregon, South Dakota collections)

Total: 2 collections each including a single occurrence
