Sister taxa: Tethysthrips hispanicus, Tethysthrips libanicus
Type specimen: MCNA 12629a, an exoskeleton. Its type locality is Peñacerrada outcrop I, which is in an Albian terrestrial amber in the Escucha Formation of Spain.
