Etymology. Giganto in latin means giant, chelys: turtle, aegyptiacus referring to Egypt.

Type specimen: NVP039, a limb element (complete and well-preserved gigantic pelvic girdle bones including pubis, ischium and ilium). Its type locality is Mut-Manfalout, Horizon III, which is in a Maastrichtian marine shale in the Dakhla Formation of Egypt.

Ecology: aquatic durophage-piscivore

Distribution: found only at Mut-Manfalout, Horizon III
