Type specimen: USNM 264319, a tooth (left first lower molar). Its type locality is Cudahy, which is in an Irvingtonian terrestrial ash in the Crooked Creek Formation of Kansas.
Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore
Distribution: there are no occurrences of Phenacomys (Paraphenacomys) brachyodus in the database
