Sister taxon: Nelumbium tenuifolium
Type specimen: U.S. Nat. Mus. holotype no. 40237. Its type locality is UCMP loc. PA971, Independence Hill, which is in an Eocene floodplain shale in California.
Ecology: "photoautotroph"
Distribution: found only at UCMP loc. PA971, Independence Hill
