Type specimens:

  • Staurikosaurus pricei: MCZ 1669, a partial skeleton (both mandibular rami with fragments of teeth in situ; six cervical, 15 dorsal, three sacral, and 34 caudal vertebrae; rib fragments; distal left scapula; ilia, ). Its type locality is Alemõa, Sanga Baixo (MCZ), which is in a Carnian terrestrial sandstone/siltstone in the Santa Maria Formation of Brazil.
  • Teyuwasu barberenai: BSP AS XXV 53-54, a set of limb elements. Its type locality is Sanga 3, Große Sanga, Santa Maria (lower), which is in a Carnian/Norian terrestrial horizon in the Santa Maria Formation of Brazil.
