Type specimens:

  • Cteniogenys antiquus: USNM 6134, a mandible (partial left dentary). Its type locality is Quarry 9, Como Bluff (YPM), which is in a Kimmeridgian/Tithonian fluvial-lacustrine mudstone/sandstone in the Morrison Formation of Wyoming.
  • Cteniogenys reedi: Gui A.33, a mandible. Its type locality is Guimarota, which is in a Kimmeridgian lagoonal coal in the AlcobaƧa Formation of Portugal.
