Type specimens:
- Aviculopinna pinnaeformis: Its type locality is Gera pinnid, which is in a Lopingian marine mudstone in the Werra Formation of Germany
- Pinna prisca: Its type locality is Merzenberg, near Milbitz, which is in a Wuchiapingian carbonate limestone in the Kupferschiefer Formation of Germany.
