Pulvinulina crassata was named by Cushman (1925).

It was recombined as Globorotalia crassata by Sullivan (1962); it was recombined as Morozovella crassata by McGrowan (1972); it was recombined as Morozovelloides crassatus by Pearson and Berggren (2006).
