Orthis testudinaria was named by Dalman (1828). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Orthis (Dalmanella) testudinaria by Reed (1917); it was recombined as Dalmanella testudinaria by Alikhova (1953), Williams and Wright (1963), Temple (1965), Bergström (1968), Havlícek (1977), Cocks (1982), Walker (1982), Jin and Chatterton (1997), Jin and Zhan (2008), Rubel (2011), Cocks (2014), Hints and Harper (2015).
