Voluta strombiformis was named by Deshayes (1835) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Athleta strombiformis by Piccoli and Savazzi (1983); it was recombined as Athleta (Athleta) strombiformis by Pacaud and Le Renard (1995).
