Taxonomy
Acanthocrania alta was named by Cooper and Grant (1974). Its type specimen is USNM 152571, a valve, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USNM720g, Hess Ranch Horst, Glass Mountains, which is in an Artinskian slope limestone in the Skinner Ranch Formation of Texas.
