Ancyloceras nebrascensis was named by Meek and Hayden (1856). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Turrilites nebrascensis by Meek and Hayden (1856); it was recombined as Helicoceras nebrascense by Meek and Hayden (1860); it was recombined as Heteroceras nebrascense by Stanton (1888); it was recombined as Cirroceras nebraskense by Wright (1957); it was recombined as Nostoceras (Didymoceras) nebrascense by Wright (1996); it was recombined as Didymoceras nebrascense by Kennedy and Bilotte (1995) and Kennedy et al. (2000).
