Melonites was named by Bogoslovsky (1971) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-m Sepkoski's reference number: 302,457]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Anarcestida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Raymondoceratinae by Korn (2006).
