Taxonomy
Edaphosaurus microdus was named by Cope (1884). Its type specimen is AMNH 4014, a partial skeleton (fragments of palate and vertebrae), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Naosaurus microdus by Cope (1886), Cope (1888), Hay (1902), Case (1907).
