Meekia (Meekia) iberica was named by Saul and Popenoe (1962). Its type specimen is UCLA 36080, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCLA loc. 3917, Texas Springs area, which is in a Cenomanian marine sandstone in the Budden Canyon Formation of California.
