Juvavites was named by Mojsisovics (1879) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-l Sepkoski's reference number: 302]. Its type is Ammonites ehrlichi. It is the type genus of Juvavitidae, Juvavitinae.
It was assigned to Haloritidae by von Mojsisovics (1896), Smith (1927), Spath (1951); to Haloritinae by Astakhova (1971); to Juvavitinae by Tozer (1981); to Juvavitidae by Tozer (1994); and to Ceratitida by Sepkoski (2002).
