Marginella apicina was named by Menke (1828) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene-Recent; circum-Caribbean.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Marginella (Leptegouana) apicina by Olsson and Harbison (1953); it was recombined as Marginella (Leptegonana) apicina by DuBar (1958); it was recombined as Prunum apicinum by Hendy et al. (2008).
