Caprinidae was named by d'Orbigny (1850) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5022].
It was synonymized subjectively with Radiolitidae by Bouchet et al. (2010).
It was assigned to Hippuritacea by Newell (1965), Vokes (1980) and Alencaster and Pantoja-Alor (1996); to Radiolitoidea by Carter et al. (2011); and to Caprinoidea by Nevesskaja (2009) and Skelton (2013).
