Isoarca was named by Muenster (1842) [Sepkoski's age data: J Aale K Maes Sepkoski's reference number: 92,1066].

It was assigned to Arcoida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Isoarcidae by Vokes (1980), Bouchet et al. (2010).
