Maryonychia was named by Pojeta (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara , O Ashg Sepkoski's reference number: 1046]. It is not extant. Its type is Opisthoptera concordensis.

It was assigned to Ambonychiidae by Pojeta (1966); and to Pterioida by Sepkoski (2002).
