Taxonomy
Gigantornis eaglesomei was named by Andrews (1916). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Port Harcourt RR, which is in a Bartonian deep-water horizon in the Ameki Formation of Nigeria. It is the type species of Gigantornis.
