Apatokephalus longifrons was named by Dean (1989) [Paratype: GSC 62292. Questionably assigned to genus by author.]. Its type specimen is GSC 62291, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is GSC locality 92241, Survey Peak Fm., Biozone D, Alberta Canada - Dean 1989, which is in a Tremadoc transition zone/lower shoreface siltstone in the Survey Peak Formation of Canada.
