Hoplites texanus was named by Cragin (1893). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Stoliczkaia texana by Adkins (1928); it was recombined as Stoliczkaia (Lamnayella) texana by Wright and Kennedy (1978), Kennedy (2005).
