Taxonomy
Kolposaurus tuckeri was named by Camp (1942). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP V3736, which is in a Maastrichtian marine shale in the Moreno Formation of California.

It was recombined as Plotosaurus tuckeri by Camp (1951) and Russell (1967).

C. L. Camp 1942 large, long-tailed mosasaur, about two-thirds the size of the specimen of Tylosaurus dyspelor, described by Osborn (1899); the lumbar and caudal centra are flat ventrally; the first twenty-nine caudal vertebrae (pygals) bear no traces of chevrons or peduncles; succeeding caudals with fused chevrons; transverse processes occur on only six of the chevron-bearing caudals; no traces of zygapophyses; a slight arch in the anterior caudal region.
