Pterocera radix was named by Brongniart (1823) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene; Europe, Iran.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Strombus radix by Michelotti (1861), Azzaroli (1958); it was recombined as Strombus (Canarium) radix by Cossmann (1904); it was recombined as Canarium (Canarium) radix by Karagiuleva (1964); it was recombined as Strombus (Lentigo) radix by Harzhauser (2004); it was recombined as Persististrombus radix by Kronenberg and Lee (2007), Harzhauser et al. (2009).
