Taxonomy
Crocodilus affuvelensis was named by Matheron (1869). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grande Mène lignite seam, Fuveau, which is in a Campanian terrestrial lignite in France.

It was recombined as Massaliasuchus affuvelensis by Martin and Buffetaut (2008) and Narváez et al. (2015).

J. E. Martin and E. Buffetaut 2008Alligatoroid with a narrow and elongate rostrum and orbits longer than wide. Constricted notch on the anterolateral edge of the dentary for reception of the third and/or fourth premaxillary tooth. Splenial appears on the ventrolateral side of the mandible toward its distal end. Slender and elongate anterior frontal process without ornamentation on its dorsal surface. Third and fourth premaxillary teeth prominent and with similar diameter. Large fourth maxillary tooth is labiolingually compressed. Medial and lateral edges of the elongate prefrontal are almost parallel in the intraorbital region.
