Taxonomy
Latoplatecarpus willistoni was named by Konishi and Caldwell (2011). Its type specimen is TMP 84.162.01, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pembina Member, Pierre Shale, which is in a Campanian marine shale/ash in the Pierre Shale Formation of Canada.
