Stenorhachis was named by Hintze and Jaanusson (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren]. Its type is Isoteloides genalticurvatus.
It was assigned to Isotelinae by Harrington et al. (1959); to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Asaphidae by Jell and Adrain (2002), Fortey and Bruton (2013).
